Parent District Council

Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

This coming Friday night, March 19th, our school will be having their annual Science Fair.  The science fair coordinators are expecting over 400 people in attendance with 130 exhibitors.  This is our chance to make additional funds to help underwrite the fifth grade expenses which are right around the corner.  We are still several thousand dollars short of our goal.

In light of all of the above I am asking that each and every fifth grade family contribute either a food or beverage so we can capitalize on the number of attendees.  Food donations, if possible, should be individually bagged or boxed to keep down the spreading of germs that seem to be prevalent this season.

Food donations can run the gamut.  Healthy snacks, such as cheese and fruit, baked goods, actual fruit or other snacks are encouraged.

Beverage donations can be cases of water, Snapple, boxed chocolate milk, juice and the like.

Donations must be delivered to the school by Friday morning, March 19th, in order to gauge what is still needed and must be purchased.

Please email me at ckafka@aol.com with your name and your donation no later than Monday, March 15th.

If you have any questions please feel free to call me at 609.466.3051.

Thanks to all of you for helping meet the needs of our kids and making their 5th grade year a year to year to remember.

Kindergarten Extension Program Survey

The Hopewell Valley Regional School District is investigating the possibility of developing a Kindergarten Extension Program in each of our four elementary schools. Your input will help determine whether the district pursues this program.

Program Description: The proposed program will be staffed by New Jersey certified teachers who will provide developmentally appropriate activities which enhance the district's existing kindergarten curriculum. Children will be placed in Kindergarten Extension in the school where the child attends kindergarten and will follow the normal school calendar.  The Kindergarten Extension program will precede or follow the student's regularly scheduled kindergarten class, giving him/her a full day experience (i.e. if your child is in an a.m. session of kindergarten, he/she would attend a p.m. session of Kindergarten Extension and vice versa). All students enrolled will have lunch and recess.

Selection Process:  Enrollment will be by lottery.  The tentative deadline for the lottery will be on April 1, 2010. Children not selected by the lottery will be placed on a waiting list and notified by June 1, 2010.

Class Size: Space is extremly limited, class sizes will be limited to 36 (18 a.m. / 18 p.m.) students per school.

Cost: The monthly tuition is tentatively set at $500.00 per month. The program will be fully funded by student tuition, no district funds will be used.
