Frog Flash

Helping Hopewell Elementary families stay informed!
October 9th, 2009

WELCOME!
Welcome to the Frog Flash, an electronic bulletin brought to you by the Hopewell Elementary School PTO to help keep you up to date on the school's news, events, and PTO happenings. Please do not respond to this email. Use the addresses listed below. Thank you!

Student Directory Update

Due to unforeseen printing delays, the directories were not distributed last week. We thank everyone for their patience. They are expected back from the printers shortly. Please email Heidi Wilenius at HESDirectory@gmail.com with questions.

Orders were due October 7, but we are still compiling them, so please send in those still outstanding by the new October 13 deadline. Payment must be included with all orders. Contact Christine Salmon at 333-1470 or Sundi Culbertson at 466-4428 with questions. Thank you for supporting the HES PTO!

October 14 PTO Meeting to Feature Speaker: HES parent Cindy Potter!

The next PTO meeting, on Wednesday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m., will include the special presentation, “ FOOD FOR MOOD.” Wouldn’t it be great to have clear thinking, good moods, and lots of energy, every day-and to be free of cravings and manage our weight? Cindy Potter, a nutrition and wellness counselor, will explore simple dietary and lifestyle changes to achieve these goals and create balance in our lives, including simple meal and snack ideas to transition family members to a healthful diet-the same ones that have worked for Cindy’s family! As always, p arents are part of the PTO family, and are encouraged to attend meetings. We look forward to seeing you there for this excellent discussion.

PLANTING PROJECT 2009 IS ALMOST HERE!

While making your fall plant purchases at Ash’s Flower Farm, Stony Brook Nursery, or Jack’s Nursery, consider buying one more to beautify our school grounds, and bring the plant and your shovel to the Landscaping Committee’s HES Planting Project 2009 taking place Thursday, October 15, from 3:30-6:30 p.m. At the nurseries mentioned, select from our wish list of deer-resistant, low-maintenance plants for next Thursday’s dig. Your purchase for the school is tax exempt. This school will be even more beautiful!

Emergency Notification System

Chief George Meyer of the Hopewell Township Police would like to notify residents of Hopewell Valley about a free emergency notification procedure to alert those in HopewellTownship, Hopewell Borough, and Pennington Borough about public safety threats and important community information by e-mail and cell phone text messages. Please take a moment now to register for this service at the police department website: http://www.hopewelltwp.org/police_main.html.

HES PTO Annual Appeal

If we nurture them they will grow! By supporting the HES PTO Annual Appeal, we give our students diverse opportunities to learn. Contributions from HES families will help fund buses for the first graders’ upcoming trip to the zoo, and have already provided teachers with the means to purchase supplies for their classrooms. At this time, 28% of families have responded; please help us reach our goal of 100% participation. If we give a little, we all get a lot! Contact Lisa McBryan at 818.0438 or JoAnn Markiewicz at 737.0646. Thank you!

New PTO Fundraiser!

The HES PTO is pleased to support a student art project this fall. Each student will create a drawing in art class, and parents can choose items to be imprinted with the same image, including eco-conscious bags, mugs, water bottles, and ornaments, among others. Order forms with a sample of your child's artwork will be sent home in early November. For information, visit www.silvergraphics.com, and view a selection of items on display near the main office. Contact Christine Salmon at 333-1470 or Sundi Culbertson at 466-4428 with questions. Purchases support the HES PTO. Thank you!
